Dr. Bruce Allsop, Daryl Shute and I recently returned from a wonderful trip to Anaheim for the IDEA World Fitness Convention. Bruce is a founding partner at Trinity and Daryl is the director of our fitness center in Hardin Valley. We learned a lot and made some great friends and connections as we move forward in establishing an exercise philosophy which is consistent with our vision of medically based wellness. Len Kravitz is a professor of exercise science at New Mexico State University. He gave a fabulous lecture about high intensity interval training which I will write more about in coming posts. Dr. Allsop and I both agreed that it was one of the best physiology lectures we have ever heard. Where was he when we were in medical school? Daryl and he are friends so we were later able to have a private meeting and get some wise advise about our specific programs at VitalSigns.
We also met with and heard two fabulous lectures by Fabio Comana, a brilliant professor in exercise and nutrition science at San Diego State University. He lectured on small group training and also brain training. Small group training is an emerging field in which there is much to learn. It carries advantages of the team or social aspect and lower cost per person while retaining the personal touch of one-on-one training. We plan on specializing in small group training at VitalSigns. Connecting with experts like Dr. Kravitz and Dr. Comana is a blessing and will pay dividends for years to come. We plan to bring both of them to Knoxville. Our desire is for VitalSigns to become a regional educational center for exercise, nutrition and all wellness related topics. In coming posts, I will be writing more about our experience and what we learned at the IDEA convention.
